Floaters Floating

So, I am being a good boy and trying to be a good doctor as well as good husband and dad, and in the middle of it all I start seeing these lines going across my left eye, which evolves into Floaters in my eye and torn retina and then laser surgery and then other complications ensuing. These complications necessitated invasive eye surgery a few weeks ago. Everything seems to be healing OK thankfully.

So, I am minding my own business and this health thing pops up. It was just such an incredible example of something that I've preached to my patients a million times over the years.

The lesson that is so important to understand is that the absence of symptoms doesn't mean a person is healthy. When people define health as "I feel good and nothing hurts" is a terrible definition of health. My eye was healthy because there were no symptoms but in reality there was something going on that finally manifested.

Health is not the absence of symptoms. Health is a combination of proactive things that a person does for themselves and the combination of all those things creates a healthy system. Those things include: enough sleep, proper eating, good weight control, exercising enough, positive mental attitudes and having timely exams and check ups, etc. etc. All of these things done together is what constitutes health.

So please make sure that you do all of these things to ensure health. If you have questions about this please call or email the office. We are always here for you...

Yours in good health,

Dr. Ray and Staff

Being a Good Doctor

Certainly being a good Chiropractor is about educating people about my craft, about being professional at all times and being great at delivering the adjustment. But being a good doctor also means being concerned with the patient as a whole.

That concern needs to be shown in all facets of life so I leave you with this today...
Last week on Long Island, NY,  2 toddlers drown in the pool in their backyard. Every summer you hear a few stories about that- it is tragic and terribly sad. Again, part of my responsibility as being a loving and concerned doctor is to remind all of you who have pools in your backyard to be constantly diligent with watching your children, making sure you have the proper fencing to allow for maximum safety and just be aware all the time.

I don't want any tragic things happening to any one of you so please be alert and watch those kids this summer around those pools.

Of course, if you have any questions or need our loving care- stop in or call us-610-363-7625.

Dr. Ray and Staff

To Move or Not to Move...

There is no doubt that the essence behind the chiropractic adjustment and therefore the most magical part of the chiropractic adjustment is the ability to assist the body in moving especially the 24 vertebrae that we have. By assisting in that, everything else that is affected by our motion improves whether circulation, hydration, blood flow, nutrient flow, etc.

So because motion is the essence of living, the importance of recent articles that are titled "Sitting is the new Smoking" is understandable.

Scientists and researchers are convinced that by being inactive and sitting from general inactivity or at the job you work at can create physiological problems. In their humble opinion this inactivity or sitting and not changing positions can be as detrimental to our health as smoking has been. It makes sense!

So for all of you at jobs that require sitting at a computer for hours a day, and hours a week, please keep in mind the importance of getting up and moving around while changing positions at least every 45 minutes. By doing this you avoid, to some degree, the detrimental effects on our body from being inactive.

There are many articles online that consider sitting as the new smoking. When you have time, check those articles out. A great one we found from The Mayo Clinics website, health website, can be found with this link: http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/adult-health/expert-answers/sitting/faq-20058005

Always remember and never forget that Dr. Ray is here for you and will continue to be around. Don't hesitate to give the office a call with questions you might have- 610-363-7625.

Dr. Ray and Staff

Stop with the Last Resort!!!

Over the course of my chiropractic career I have stories and stories and stories (did I say I have stories?) about people that come into my office and use chiropractic as a "Last Resort."

As an example, of which I have many, a nice woman came into my office last week complaining about neck pain and arm pain that she has had for years. She has been to her primary care doc. She has been to an orthopedist. She has been to a neurologist. She has had X-Ray's. She has had an MRI. All of these tests were essentially negative...

The reason for that is because thankfully the major, major, major (did I say major) % of people that have spinal issues is due to "The repetition of life, the repeated movements of everyday living, and fortunately those are by far the major causes of human issues with spinal problems- THAT IS A FACT!"

So, I implore all of you to not use chiropractic as a last resort but as the first line of healing help. Of course their are situations: if you fell down stairs and fractured something go get X-Ray's first, if you have outrageous headaches and you can't see or hear go to your family doctor first. But as I said, those are few and far between. If you use chiropractic as a first resort, there is absolutely no doubt you will get better quicker and in more of a timely fashion as well as spending loads less money and get back to the quality of life that you all deserve.

Don't ever hesitate to give the office a call with questions.

Yours in good health,

Dr. Ray and Staff
