The "NERVE" of Chiropractic

The premise behind manipulative care is that the everyday repetition of our lives- sitting, bending, lifting, sneezing, etc.- creates mechanical problems between the vertebrae and the disks, tendons, ligaments and everything else. That is why getting adjusted is so wonderful (in my humble opinion, as well as many others). The % of patients that improve with chiropractic is incredible- that is documented and is a reality.

But, one often disregarded part of chiropractic is that we have 31 pairs of spinal nerves. These nerves exit from the spinal cord in between the vertebrae and then meander to every part of our body. Therefore, their is an absolute correlation between getting adjusted and nerve health. I can't tell you how much nerve health happens from getting adjusted because its hard to quantify. Because of the proximity of these nerve fibers to the vertebrae, their has to be a severe relationship. That is also a big part of getting adjusted.

So get your gluteals in to the office and get adjusted. Your body needs it for multiple reasons.

Happy Passover & Easter...

Diskalicious!

One of the most amazing structures in the human body among so many others is the Spinal Disk. The vertebral disk in the spine is a unique and interesting structure. By far the most important purpose of the disk is to act as shock absorbers between the adjacent vertebrae. They also act as ligaments to hold the vertebrae of the spine together while acting as joints to allow for slight mobility of the spine.

Their is a total of 23 disks- from the time we start walking they become overworked and underpaid.

Think about it: the pounding, the stresses, the repetitive forces of daily life that act upon these disks is incredible to think of. Because of the daily abuse our disks overtime get dehydrated and thinner which can cause problems with a decent % of human beings.

So what can we do to help these amazing structures? The best thing to do is keep mobile, keep exercising, get adjusted, be conscious of posture, watch your ergonomics at work, drink enough water daily to hydrate the disks, etc.

Please keep this in mind- our disks are important to our health.

Spring Time Warriors...

We all know the expression "weekend warriors," this refers to all the people that aren't super active generally speaking but on the weekends play three rounds of golf, work in the garden for hours, play tennis for 8 sets, etc. Than Sunday evening rolls around and they can't walk, they can't talk, and they are in pain from something they strained. We all know that is silly to do, but we all do it because we are all silly human beings.

"Spring time warriors "really refer to the same thing. We have been sedentary, most of us, during the crazy winter months and now that the weather is slowing starting to be normal, we are raring to go! So, we start off with too much. We don't slowly ease into it. Almost like New Year resolutions- it really does feel like newness which is what Spring time really is.

I implore all of you when it comes to starting up again whether its exercising, walking, outdoor cleanup, planting, sports, etc, to TAKE IT SLOW. Don't overdue it in the beginning. I have seen too many people over all these years with their zeal to get out and enjoy the non frigid weather and they do too much too quick.

Please keep this in mind. Enjoy the last few weeks of this "Polar Vortex Winter." Be safe out their.

Any questions don't hesitate to call the office.

Keep Moving, Stay Healthy

Spinal manipulative therapy has been around for 1,000's of years. In chiropractic we call it an "adjustment." The whole premise behind the adjustment is to assist the body in functioning and the adjustment helps the body move. Most human beings that have neuro muscular skeletal conditions acquire those conditions from the repetition of daily life. The bending, lifting, sneezing, carrying, sitting, mowing, etc. etc.- these are the causes of our spinal difficulties.
Very small % of spinal difficulties are caused by disease or pathology, thankfully.

What I am saying is that I need all of you to keep moving because movement is what keeps the body healthy. Whether it is stretching, exercising, working out, running, etc. All of these things have multiple benefits but the biggest benefit is when you move the body has a better chance of being healthy for all of its systems. Getting adjusted is just one of the ways to assist the body in functioning correctly.

Please try to remember to stretch in the morning like all of God's creatures do. Any animal that has a spinal column should do some stretching in the morning. If you have a pet at home, the first thing the pet does in the morning is stretch!

As Valentine's Day approaches, one of the best things you can do for your loved ones is preach- KEEP MOVING! We are here for your spinal needs anytime. Please have a loving Valentine's Day.

What's Super for your Arthritic Problems? CHIRO...

Happy Super Bowl Everyone. This fun entertainment spectacle brings lifting of your wings to your mouths and sitting watching the game, drinking your cans of beer with your head back into extension, even tossing the old pig skin around kicking up old shoulder pain. All of these things can be connected too- Osteoarthritis.

Their are different forms of arthritis- Osteo being by far the most common. Unfortunately, over time and repetitive usage our joints become less fluid. The joint spaces decrease, the disks get thinner, the bone spurs grow, the cartilage lessens, etc. etc. (This is not to bum you out, this is to put a smile on your face).

Not that chiropractic is the answer to take away Arthritis, but the number one thing to do to lessen the effect of these arthritic changes- is "Keep them moving."

Stretching, exercising, walking, moving- this is what is best for the arthritic joint. So, it goes without saying but I will say it anyways, chiropractic should be included in any ones treatment for their arthritic symptoms because the essence behind chiropractic is helping with function and movement.

Please call the office if you or anyone you know or work with is battling with arthritic symptoms and is not sure what to do. We are here to help.

Walk Softly and Carefully

Thankfully so far this winter has not been anything like the last winter from HELL! You never know what can happen, so I just want to remind everybody:

Please continue to walk with care and watch your steps. Unfortunately I know a patient who stepped out of his car, a little ice patch was right below, and he slipped and tore a ligament in his knee. So please when getting in and out of the cars- be careful, have sound footing and pay attention. When you walk out of your homes, check the sidewalk to make sure that it is not iced up.

I can't tell you how many patients I've seen over the years that have hurt themselves from winter weather and needed either my care, emergency care, or orthopedic care from injuries.

So, please walk softly and carefully.

Yours in good health,

Dr. Ray and Staff
