Get it Checked!!!

Recently one of the Philadelphia 76ers was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. This is a condition when ones arm may be weak or tingling or numb while not working properly as well which can be due to nerves that are being irritated in front of the shoulder underneath our chest muscles and other muscles. Fortunately, with good therapy and treatment odds are he will be much improved. We certainly all wish the best for him.

You never know when your feeling something whether its in fact an issue or maybe nothing at all. My best advice is to have it checked so you can rule out if its something. Being properly informed, taking action and being proactive are all ways to stay ahead of the game. Because again, you just never know...

Really want to wish everyone a joyous holiday season. Be safe, enjoy your loved ones and have a Happy Holidays.

Chiro Fear

Yesterday I had an experience in my office that unfortunately I have had many, many times since 1991 since I opened my practice up in Exton. The experience I am referring too is a new patient making an appointment, coming in and expressing fear toward their first chiropractic visit. It's not an infrequent thing as I have said. This fear that people encounter is often from their family doctor saying "Don't go to the chiropractor" but with no reasoning behind it.

The other big time fear is  generated by pharmaceutical companies that advertise all the time about the aches and pains we have being normal from life, stress and the like. They implore us to continue taking 10 million Advil or other meds per year to help with the pain.

Believe me when I tell you this-so many of these patients like the recent patient I had after a little bit of chiropractic and tender love and care say, and I have heard this 10 million times also, "Boy, I feel so much better after my adjustment. I wish I would of come years ago." Of course the pharmaceutical industry doesn't want you to come because chiropractic always tries to take away the cause of a problem, and if the cause is taken away then the need to medicate is also taken away.

I can go on and on with this nauseous conversation because it angers me. Please always remember and never forget that we are here for you to explain and deliver wonderful chiropractic care that most of the time changes people's lives.

Yours in good health,

Dr. Ray and Staff

Get your Tush Right!

Their have been many articles written in the recent years about how detrimental to our health sitting can be if done millions of hours a week. Unfortunately for many jobs we have in the workforce these days as well as laziness, the amount of time we sit has increased incredibly. If you go online and look up articles that are titled "Sitting is the new smoking" you will find lots of info concerning that and it is unsettling to read about how unhealthy sitting is.

So I just wanted to go through the best position to sit in that will decrease how negative sitting can be for the human body.

So here goes: If you imagine that we all have tails like lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) what you want to do is sit so your tail is behind your body and not crunched up under your tush. When we sit if you have your legs about 12 inches apart and then push your tush back so it is behind your spine not curled under - this is the most absolute healthy way of sitting.

So again, push your tush when sitting down-slide it behind your spine as if your tail is hanging down the back of the chair...

This is by far the most healthy way of sitting and best for spinal health. If you have any "push your tush sitting method questions" please do not hesitate to call the office as we are always here for you.
Keep on having a safe summer (what is left of it).

Mid Summer Check In

A quick note from Dr. Ray:

As we pass the half year mark, we want to remind all patients to stop in for an adjustment as we are sure it has been awhile. Getting the body worked on is critical to having it perform at full capacity. Working on the joints, neck, back and spine all help the body continue to maintain and get through the daily grind of the work day, the summer travel, and everything in between.

Stop in the office this week for an adjustment!!!

Headaches and Chiro...

There are many people that suffer from recurring headaches and unfortunately many of these people don't even think of trying chiropractic for there problem. This is because many people don't realize that the spinal column begins right behind the earlobe. Many humans think the spinal column begins at the base of the neck where the first vertebrae is. But in fact, the first vertebrae is right below the bottom of our skull...

Unfortunately the muscles/joints/ligaments/soft tissue that help support our skull are the same ones that help move and rotate our head- therefore they are over worked and always stressed. The recurring effort that these muscles produce often will create muscle spasms at the base of our skull. This is by far the most common cause of recurring headaches, and that is why through years of adjusting people chiropractic has been successful in helping patients with headaches.

For anyone you know with recurring headache problems, implore on them to get in touch with Resnick Chiropractic. It has been amazing to see the success we have had in helping people with headaches. Chiropractic really works!!!

Have a safe and fun filled 4th! And of course...Always remember and never forget "If you have a 5th on the 4th you may not be able to go fourth on the fifth."

Dr. Ray and Staff

Watch your Sitting...

We may have chatted about this before (my blog memory is not as good as it used to be!) but it certainly is important enough to reiterate...

If you have a chance go online and look up some articles concerning "Sitting is the new Smoking."
There have been reports and studies that have proven that the amount we sit these days is detrimental to our health on many levels, not just a stiff back or achy legs.

Here is a list of some of the negative aspects of too much sitting:
1- Greater risk of cancer
2- Increase in obesity
3- Increase in diabetes
4- Susceptible to muscle issues
5- Higher risk of depression
6- Higher risk of circulatory issues

I know this sounds scary since between work, TV watching, etc. we all sit a lot. Please be conscious of this and work on moving more to offset the negative effects of sitting. Of course, getting adjusted with chiropractic care is another thing to incorporate to help the body move better.

We are always here to answer your questions. Happy Father's Day to one and all.

Yours in good health,

Dr. Ray and Staff

The NCAA Tournament and Our Lives

As many of you know, we are in the midst and the tail end of the college basketball championship tournament. When the tournament begins, their is 68 teams that make the tournament and then using different parameters the teams are seeded- for example the #1 seed plays the #16 season, the #1 seed team being a very good team and the #16 seeded team being usually not as good. Usually the #1 seeds win and move on through the tournament, sorry Virginia...

The premise of the whole tournament is driven by a hierarchy of seeding. As I was watching the games this year, I was thinking that many of us without really contemplating it have a hierarchy of physical and mental health issues that we need to deal with. Unfortunately many of us push down what we need for mental health and physical health to accommodate the other important parts of our life that we need to deal with. Therefore- we end up being less healthy in both a mental and physical way.

I can't tell you how many times patients come into the office who haven't been in for longer then they should and they say "I just got so busy with work, family, etc. that I put my health on the lower level of importance.."

I implore everyone to please keep this in mind. Appropo to the NCAA tournament we have to seed our priorities in life. If we don't work on what we really need to do for our mental and physical health, it will be easy to slip into poor choices and bad health. Please, if that is happening to you or your loved ones, address it and change this. We are here to help you with that, it is very important.

Give us a call if you need anything and GO NOVA!!!

Dr. Ray and staff

Ya Just Never Know...

So here we are yesterday minding our business, being nice to people, kissing babies, walking old lady's across the street, trying to do nice things and minding our business and not bothering a soul. Then...we were told that we have to deal with a Nor'easter again and power outages again, and inconveniences again. What the hell is going on?..

So as I was snowed in today (because I had to cancel patients), I was thinking that our health is the same kind of dubiousness. We can be minding our own business and trying to be nice while feeling healthy and then the next day we are diagnosed with some life threatening disease or some painful condition, when two days ago we were feeling fine.

This is the precariousness of our existence. So therefore lets all please try to be as healthy as we can and have our preventative tests done and be mindful of our blessings.

Stay warm!
Yours in good health,

Dr. Ray and Staff

The Championship Eagles

Watching the game this past Sunday was super fantastic. To see the joy that the fans showed when the game was over was just outstanding. It is amazing the depth of emotion that gets affected by fans who have been long standing Eagle worshipers, Generation after generation of Eagles fans that were starved for a championship.

To witness it was a joyous experience. It reminded me how connected our mental health is to our physical function. There is an absolute connection between the mind and the body and often Doctors forget to include that in their healthcare of patients. I can almost guarantee you that their are going to be thousands of Philadelphians who are going to recognize that they feel better physically since the birds won the title. They won't connect the two or perhaps some will but the connection is absolute and has been part of humanity for thousands of years.

So, I submit to all of you to continue to work on your mental health as it will directly affect in a positive way your physical health.
Enjoy the post game elation. No one can ever take this away from us as we enjoy basking in the sunlight of a championship. Be careful and enjoy celebrating.

E A G L E S EAGLES!
